HAMMER HEAD CHASES COBIA under boat! 30milesOUT fish'n TV

i had planned a family trip to port o' conner tx... my neighbors here in mico, tx (outside san antonio by lake medina) were going with us... they have 2 boys that wanted to fish.... some other frinds decided to come as well and they have 2 boys... that was alot of boys (i have a boy as well! ) that wanted to fish!
we all meet up at the pirates cove condos in POC... at that time i had a blazer bay 2170... alot like the kenner 21' bay boat...... i had this boat off shore ready... i had a custom top's n towers 5'x7' "t" top with 6 rocket launcher rod holders... i had 2 flush mount rod holders for trolling.... i had a 140hp suzuki 4 stroke motor that was a real work horse... used verry little gas and was real reliable... i told the guys that the seas were real faviorable in the morning.. 2' seas or less... well it ended up being 2'-3' but that was exceptable in my boat....
we left just before first light around 5:30am.... our condo sat right off the intercoastal canal.... we jumped in the intercoastal and headed out toward bird island.... we then viered right and went straight out the port o conner big jettys.... 10 miles straitght out from the jettys was a oil rig i call big mama... she is a large 4 tier rig with 4 sperate parts.... since the seas were closer to 3' rather than 2' i decided to tie up to the rig and stay there for the whole trip since the seas were a little rough.... everybody got a rod and rigged up with frozen squid and dropped to the bottom... we hooked up to a nice bull redfish pretty quick... some time passed and then one of the boys caught a small red snapper....
my neighbor scott was using a smaller spinning rod... it was a allstar rod from academy sporting goods with a sea lion reel from bass pro shop.... i had 17lb mono on that reel... scott had a big jig tipped with shrimp... all of a sudden that rod went down!  scott had i nice fish and we had no idea what it was! we were in 50' of water and still tied up to the oil rig...... scott fought and fought that fish... finally we saw color... it was a nice cobia! this cobia was still green and was not ready to come in... 5 min. later the cobia began to make passes by the boat... all of a sudden a big group of bubbles rose to the surface just below the cobia... like you would see from a big red ear slider turtle... just a whole lot bigger! then maybe 30' down we could see a light grey shape that looked like a car rising to the surface right by the boat! we were all in shock! it was a massive hammer head shark that was in pursuit of our cobia! that rascal was like 14' long and i dont know how heavy! it made a couple swipes at our cobia on the line... i yelled at scott " that is a hammer head and they will steel your cobia!" i told scott that he had better get that cobia in the boat before all we have left is a fish head!
well scott put the muscle on the cobia and wenched him into the boat un hurt... scotts son shane had the camera and was rolling when the cobia came to the surface, as you will see in the video... i did not have enough footage for an whole episode of 30milesOUT fish'n TV but the footage of the hammer head was to good to not use... i decided to make a commercial for the past season useing the cobia footage as a high light... enjoy the vid...
